Paul was prompted by two circumstances to write this second letter to Corinth. The first was news from Titus that the Corinthians had taken his "tearful letter" to heart and the second was the arrival of new disturbing news about the situation at Corinth. Paul's purpose in writing this letter was to defend the gospel of Christ by forcefully reminding the Corinthians that what they had heard from Paul preach was indeed God's truth. Paul spent much time defending his ministry and his integrity. In so doing Paul provides an example for us today on how to defend our own leadership in times of trouble.
