It contains sixty-six books of adventure, history, poetry, letters and much more, written by many different people over hundreds of years. It is in two main parts - the Old Testament, originally written in Hebrew, the language of the ancient Jews, and the New Testament, written first in Greek, which was understood by everyone in the Roman Empire when Jesus lived on earth.

Not everything in the Bible could possibly have been squeezed into this book, so the most exciting stories and the best-loved ones have been chosen. Although the Bible may seem to be a puzzling mixture of different kinds of writing, the separate parts fit together, like pieces in a jig-saw, to make one whole picture. That picture is made plain in this Bible.
